Order of the Pheonix is the best Potter by far.

Better, darker and effectively tells the main plot and ONLY the main plot. Thus making it shorter but more concentrated unlike other summer flicks of late. Anyway, the new director has better vision and exceeded some of my expectations, the photography is a bit new and more unique than other Potters, and the scene that is set is better than what I imagined. And in the process of making it shorter, chapters, yes, chapters are omitted like Quidditch and other stuff.

So the storyline that's left here is about Potter and Dumbledore being made fun of by the press and being downplayed for loonies. And because of Voldemort's return, Dumbledore organizes the Order of the Pheonix whilst Harry is charged in the Ministry's court for underage magic. Harry then organizes the D.A., or Dumbledore's Army and trains his friends in defending themselves especially because the Ministry-approved Defense of the Dark Arts curriculum is not helpful at all.

I love the way the newcomers act their respective scenes. For example, veteran Helen Bonham Carter shines as the deranged Death Eater Bellatrix Lestrange. Although her part is a mere fraction of time, she makes use of her acting skills here. The pretty Evanna Lynch is loopy enough to play Luna Lovegood and Imelda Staunton acts perfectly as the Inquisitor, Dolores Umbridge, though they could've used a fat suit.

Though some scenes do not jive with the main story, it's a great and entertaining watch and Radcliffe, Watson and Grint still make a bunch although Umbridge's screen time is longer than Ron's and Hermione's screen time combined and the other actors are totally underutilized. Hope to see Half-Blood Prince in Yate's eyes next year.

Next Attraction:
The Simpsons Movie (July 29)- Releasing together with the acclaimed Ratatouille is the funny and interesting feature-length adventure of the Simpson family. And though it probably won't go with an Oscar nod (It's got a lot of Emmys anyway), it's still gonna be a tough competitor to Remy's cooking escapade. Let's see what'll happen in the weeks to come.

  1. Okay... maybe you should do the movie review (haha) - the one you did here in this blog was great already. You're the official movie buff.

this review actually made me want to go see Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix although I am not, wasn't planning to!

speaking of potter movies, I just (29 minutes ago) saw Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in HBO and thought it was a bit predictable...

    Hope this one's not!
