81st Oscars reactions; balls are kept

So OK, who here didn't have a f-king clue that Slumdog Millionaire would win? Seriously, it won probably every single nomination it was given (Sound Editing is the only category it didn't win in), the movie's awesome as hell...

...and I get to keep my balls to myself.

Anyway, here's a full list of the winners if you didn't watch the ceremony. Starting from the all-important Best Picture, down to the more technical side of things.

Best Picture Winner: Slumdog Millionaire

Best Actor: Sean Penn (This was unexpected. I was rooting for Frank!)

Best Actress: Kate Winslet (Duh!)

Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger (Another duh!)

Best Supporting Actress: Penelope Cruz (The Academy still loves some spice; her performance was sizzling.)

Best Director: Danny Boyle (Foreshadowing of Best Picture winner FTW)

Best Animated Film: Wall-E (I'm sick of saying "Duh!", but Pixar is the best)

Best Documentary: Man on Wire 

Best Foreign Film: Departures (Forgive me for laughing at the acceptance speech; I'm so sorry)

Adapted Screenplay: Slumdog Millionaire

Original Screenplay: Milk

Best Original Score: Slumdog Millionaire (Truly exotic treat for the ears)

Best Original Song: Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire (The competitors: another Slumdog Millionaire song and Wall-E's credits song)

Best Make-up: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (This was a given.)

Best Editing: Slumdog Millionaire (The editing helps mesh the mishmash of genres together very, very well)

Best Sound Editing: The Dark Knight (Well, The Dark Knight had to win some other category, right?)

Best Sound Mixing: Slumdog Millionaire (Again, a treat for the senses.)

Best Special Effects: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Ah-mazing.)

Chinese own Americans this time

The all-star basketball team from the U.S. may have won against China last Sunday, but today- Day 5 of the Olympics- the Olympic gold goes to China, and how!

Today was female gymnastics, a sport which would mostly likely rack up the ratings- not only because of the ladies, but also for their skill. Yes, the skill in display was indeed prodigious, but China took that to the next level and was near perfection. These young ladies show their all, and apparently brought their A-game, because watching it made my jaw drop. There were no mistakes, there was some spectacular stunts, there was... perfection.

It's actually no surprise then, that the United States was relegated to Silver, which in itself is also an achievement. But this is just the beginning, and currently the United States have the most medals at 29 with China lagging at 26. One would just wonder what would happen next...

Obama: New democrat rep

Obama is clearly making history as we speak because he's officially the first African-American democrat who's representing the democrats in the rat race in November- and the first African-American president in due course.

I mean, seriously, is anybody out there crazy enough to elect John "BS" McCain (who, if you're not exactly up to speed, is Bush's pick for successor in obviously the Republican party)?

But don't fret Clinton-ian err..., supporters! She may just be your new VP (and I hope she will be, Obama's gonna need the help he can get to finally appeal to Clinton's former supporters). Still, after the most predictable election in US history, I think things will get really bright, although it won't happen instantly, mind you.

I have to ask though: Who did you pick for president? And do you mind at all that Obama's gonna be representing the winning party?

THE NEW AMERICAN LOSER.

Yes, despite the fact that last night the odds were against David Cook, he still won by 12 million miles- a landslide.

Simon was wrong?!
Yep, Simon was wrong this time. His opinions are the most important ones in the competition but the people didn't listen this time.

Wait, what happened to the tweens?!
The tweens are certainly the driving force of the competition, and if the Hannah Montana empire can attest, the odds could've been a lot more against Cook. Combine that with Vote For The Worst, and the assumption the Archuleta could've won was a lot more rational, and yet look!

Americans became smarter, I guess.
The majority of the Americans, in my view, have finally picked the right person to vote as "Idol". Cook is a lot more confident and versatile, and he consistently showed in his weekly performances that if it were not a voting show, it would've been Cook hands down.

What the future holds?
The future of the winner of Idol is always grim, what with people rushing and demanding them to release an album ASAP. If the other winners can attest, it's that their albums are almost always a flop, and that they are almost always overproduced, over-poppy crap. The runners-up have a better time selling records than they ever could. But Cook could be a new Daughtry- he will probably sell if they let him stick to rock and let him do what he does best. The challenge he will face is: Will he break the Carrie Underwood curse? And that my friends, is a very, very tall challenge. Best of luck to him, though.

What I noticed during the course of the finale
I noticed something during our Renaldo Lapuz's performance: his was a lot more grandiose than the others. Seriously, he has a huge ensemble behind him despite the fact that they're a college band and they make it look more like a victory party than a mockery, although the grandiose facade of all of this is the sarcastic mockery of our Filipino brother. But whatever...
